California Council for Excellence Announces 2011 Award Winners
LOS ANGELES – December 16, 2011 – The California Council for Excellence (CCE) today announced the 2011 recipients of the California Awards for Performance Excellence (CAPE)™ Eureka and Prospector awards.
Administered by CCE, the CAPE™ program guides California organizations to maintain competitiveness by promoting continuous improvement. The CAPE™ Eureka Award is the top-level award; the applicants are evaluated through a full, 50-page application and a weeklong site visit, based on the requirements of the 7-category Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence. The Prospector Award applicants submit a 25-page application, also using the same Criteria. This year’s winners include:

- Sutter Davis Hospital – Davis, Calif.
- City of Los Angeles Community Development Department – Los Angeles, Calif.
- Kaiser Permanente Riverside Medical Service Area – Riverside, Calif.
- Providence Holy Cross Medical Center – Mission Hills, Calif.
- VA Palo Alto Health Care System – Palo Alto, Calif.
- Desert Regional Medical Center – Palm Springs, Calif.
- Family Health Centers of San Diego – San Diego, Calif.
- Los Angeles Convention Center – Los Angeles, Calif.

Sutter Davis Hospital has received four Eureka Awards since 2008, and has most recently received back-to-back Gold-level Awards. “Sutter Davis is only the second organization to be awarded twice with the Gold-level Eureka Award since the inception of CCE, nearly 20 years ago,” said MaryAnn Pranke, CCE Executive Director. “I extend a heartfelt congratulations to Sutter Davis, as well as all of the 2011 CAPE™ winners.”
The 2011 award recipients will be formally honored at CCE’s 18th Annual Best Practices and Awards Conference, Celebrating Excellence 2012, at Disneyland’s Paradise Pier Hotel, Anaheim, Calif., on May 1 and 2. The CAPE™ Awards will be presented to these winners during the luncheon on Wednesday, May 2.

Founded in 1992, the California Council for Excellence is a nonprofit educational foundation dedicated to helping California-based organizations achieve world-class results through the principles and criteria of the Baldrige Performance Excellence Program. The organization oversees programs such as CAPE™ and CTEA, as well as the Governor’s Award for Excellence and the United States Productivity Award.
